- My brother's Sportster (also about 1 month old) appears to have
- the same problem. The problem seems to be related to the
- DTR signal. The Sportster doesn't like to be powered up
- when DTR is low.
-
- Example, when you first boot your computer and start DOS,
- DTR is low. If you now startup Qmodem, which sets DTR high,
- and then power-up your Sportster, everything should be fine.
-
- However, if you power-up the Sportster prior to loading
- Qmodem, it just sits there. To make the modem respond
- you will have to drop DTR and raise it again (via the
- hangup command). The Sportster then comes to life and
- responds to AT commands.
-
- To get around this annoyance, we just set the dip switch on
- the modem telling it to ignore the DTR signal.
-
- I'm still not sure if this is a hardware or firmware bug.
-
- (The reason why I'm fairly certain that is is a modem bug
- is that my Courier works fine in the same setup that gives
- the Sportster problems. My courier also has LED's for
- DTR and DSR which comes in handy for debugging these
- little problems :-) ).
